Last year, we had our first family photo shoot. It was taken at the Botanic Gardens and we had lots of fun. This year, just when I was pondering the idea of doing another photo shoot, I received an invitation from Orange Studios to a complimentary family photo session – it was as if they had read my mind!
However, the main difference was this would be taken at a studio instead of an outdoor location (they don’t offer that at this moment). I was hesitant, concerned that the photos would end up posey-looking or the background would be too boring. But after understanding the photography concept and thinking that it might be interesting to try something different, I said yes.
Short intro of Orange Studios
Orange Studios is a photography studio that specialises in family photography – including maternity, newborns, babies, children and… even pets!
While the company is new, Ryan the owner and photographer ain’t a newbie. He has accumulated years of experience during his prior employment where he built up an amazing portfolio, with many grateful and happy clients full of praise about his photography style and service.
Ryan started Orange Studios with the vision of offering family photography with a difference. Through each personalised photo session, he aims to provide clients with an enjoyable and memorable family bonding experience that’s full of fun, laughter, and love.
Ryan’s assistant, Wini was very helpful in arranging the photo session. She first sent us an email with basic information regarding the attire and props, and mentioned that Ryan will be giving us a preparatory/consultation call.
A few days before the photo shoot, Ryan rang me. He took time to find out the activities we enjoy as a family and to understand Kenan’s interests as well as what he loves to play with. Then he offered us some suggestions about what to bring along for the photo shoot and what attire we could put together that will look good in the pictures.
Our packing was pretty easy. Because Kenan is so in love with balloons at this stage, so I brought along a packet of balloons and balloon pump. I also packed his favourite soft toys. To be honest, I’m not really into using too many props; I much prefer capturing our interactions as a family.
We arrived at Orange Studios one Sunday morning. Ryan and Wini were both very friendly and our little boy warmed up to them quickly. I think it really helped that he had with him the balloons. He couldn’t wait to show them that he could pump his own balloons *laughs*. We soon got into the swing of things in front of the camera…
As you can see from above photos, we really enjoyed the photo shoot.
And now to unveil the professional shots…
I am happy with the results. For Kenan’s photo, I really like it that he had with him his favourite toys. Years from now as we look at these photos, we will remember what’s special to him at this particular stage of his life.
As for the family photos, I like it without the use of props. Ryan was good at capturing the happy moments in our family interactions. I hope as Kenan sees these photos many years later, he will remember fondly the fun we had together.
By the way, as part of the package, we received 10 selected pictures (printable up to 8R size) that came in a CD, as well as a 20″ x 20″ canvas – it’s our very first! Ryan even personally delivered it to us, so thoughtful!
I really like Ryan’s concept of personalised family photos, where he brings out the uniqueness of each family by using their favourite toys and items.
