My Son Turned 3!

in Motherhood, Places to Go

The lack of entry in this space usually meant that I’m busy elsewhere.

And this week, I’ve been kept occupied (happily so), because it’s my son’s birthday!

The celebration started last weekend when we brought him to the S.E.A Aquarium within the Marine Life Park at Resorts World Sentosa. An animal lover, he was thrilled and we had a hard time tearing him away from the fish tanks. The Discovery Touch Pool was one of the features he loved as he got a close encounter with the sea star. But it  was too crowded so he didn’t get a chance to touch other sea creatures.

This year, we didn’t throw him a party as we felt that there’s no need for such fanfare. We had a special celebration for him last year only because we wanted to make it up to him for not being able to have a birthday party when he turned one (a special milestone to most parents).

Nevertheless, he did have a simple celebration in school a few days ago. But simple is an understatement to this mommy. Being someone not so great at choosing gifts, the task of putting together the goodie bags sometimes feel like a test of my creativity.

Thankfully, a few weeks ago, I chanced upon something which I thought the kids might enjoy playing with. Can you guess what it is from the pictures below?

Well, it’s the airplane! I used to play that when I was a kid and was so happy when I saw them recently (the details shall be for a future post). Have you ever played them when you were little?

I also bought the letter jigsaw puzzles for his classmates. I thought it would make for a nice ‘personalised’ gift. This took a bit of trouble as they only had limited letters in the store and I rang their head office to try to get the rest. Thankfully, the staff was really helpful and she found all the letters I needed and got their driver to deliver to the store the next day! That’s what good service is all about!!

Lastly, I made a simple thank-you note for the kids and added a cute little peg to ‘prettify’ it. The goodie bags also contained small pack of fruit juice and some biscuits.

The Mickey Mouse cake was for his birthday celebration and it was Kenan who chose the design.

As Kenan is currently  in love with balloons (I believe he will move on to something else), I decided to order a bouquet for him. This will last him for quite a few days!

If you are new to this blog and don’t know this yet, my son and I share the same birthday. So one of the evenings, my girl friends celebrated for the two of us at Shimbashi Soba at NEX. Kenan enjoyed himself. However it’s not for the food but something else…

My boy was intrigued by the chef making buckwheat soba and stood by the window watching intently. Perhaps to thank his ‘fan’, the chef started drawing pictures with flour for my little boy in between making the different batches of noodles. He was really good and we were impressed.

Speaking of food, the hubby took us to Wah Lok at Carlton Hotel for a scrumptious dim sum lunch. I mentioned casually a while back that I would love to try to dim sum at Wah Lok (apparently it’s quite famous) and he remembered! This was just the start of a few surprises I received that day.

Since this is a post about birthday, I’ll not turn it into a food review. Shall just say that most of the items were above average and a few of them were excellent.

This was the second surprise of the day. The famous Lana Cake! I wanted to try this for a long, long time, so can you imagine how touched I felt? The chocolate fudge cake is really yummy and it was great that it wasn’t too sweet. I’ll definitely have this again!

The thing that made my day. A gift from the husband. It’s not a diamond ring. But it doesn’t matter. To me, it’s still a very beautiful gift (the Tiffany Filigree Heart necklace). What really touched my heart was all the effort that my husband put into the birthday celebration. I used to complain that he’s not romantic enough. But I guess some men do get it eventually *smiles*

Your son’s only turning 1 in 7 months’ time and you’re planning now? Hahaha! But I guess it’s better to plan early than have a last minute panic ;)

I know that airplane! Played with it when I was little. My 2 boys love playing with that too. In fact, my younger boy was just asking me to get one for him just the other day, cos he wanted to play with it again.

I like the goodie bags you’ve prepared. Lots of thoughts and effort being put in.

It’s so special to share the same birthday with your son! I think I know what’s the greatest birthday gift you received 3 years ago. :)

Happy birthday Ruth and Kenan! :)

Thank you, Ing! Yes, my boy is indeed the best birthday gift I ever received. So thankful to God for His special blessing!

Where else can we buy the airplane from? I happened to see it by chance, not sure where else sells it.

I was trying to find that airplane again too. My boys received one each as a token prize from the teacher of an art class they used to attend.

Oh, so you didn’t buy the planes for your boys. I bought them from a small shop in Kampong Glam (just across from the Sultan Mosque, on the same stretch as the Minang). Haha, so that’s a reason for you to visit the place ;)

This can help you only look for vacuums that meet
this price criterion and you will not be tempted to
look at a vacuum that is out of your price range. The attachments and unique design of the Bissell let you keep your
home free of allergens and pet hair. It mainly features two roller brushes that
can sweep the dirt on tight spaces like upholstery,
kitchen and car.

You can get this at the official Notre Dame store in navy
blue, green, or white for $65. It can be played during the celebrant’s party and even after some
days or years after. Gift certificates and corporate charge
accounts are also available.
