Life Lately: Family Fun (Part Two) – Human Body Experience and Exploring Nature’s Design

in Places to Go

We were invited to visit some new exhibitions at the Science Centre in June as a lead up to the Singapore Science Festival which officially starts today, 18 July to 3 August.

It’s been a really long time since I last been to the Science Centre (maybe back in secondary school?). So when I received an invitation to visit some new exhibitions, I was delighted. It would also be a good exposure for my boy, who’s never been there. We checked out the Human Body Experience and Exploring Nature’s Design (Robot Zoo).

You are likely to have seen the Human Body Experience advertisements at public places like MRT stations where a man is climbing into a giant human mouth. Well, that’s the one. Kenan was scared and it was with some encouragements from us that he agreed to go. And he wasn’t the only kid feeling this way. The exhibit had some dark areas, some parts with flashing lights and others where the space was tight, so it can be scary for some young kids and adults with some degree of claustrophobia. But the hubby and I found it pretty interesting.

Next up was Exploring Nature’s Design. Kenan really liked it here. There was so much he can do – from playing with giant lego blocks, creating his own animal with LED lights, to sprinting down the race track,¬†manoeuvring the parts of robots and much more. He had tons of fun!

Both exhibitions are still on. For details on Human Body Experience, go to this page. The Exploring Nature’s Design is only available till 24 August 2014. You can find out more from here.

I mentioned that these exhibitions were part of the Singapore Science Festival 2014, which is an annual celebration of everything Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM). Jointly organised by the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR) and the Science Centre Singapore, SSF aims to cultivate an interest in STEM in children from young. Visit the official website for details. I already spotted a few events that I think my son will really enjoy!

One best part of a parent is being able to mingle with them especially when it comes to places like this. You’ll able to watch them learn and grow and do things their way.
